Dark matter and dark energy are invisible and not yet fully understood, but their presence is inferred from their gravitational effects on visible matter and the large-scale structure of the universe.

Exploring the universe is a goal of both professional astronomers and space agencies. Telescopes, both ground-based and space-based, are used to observe distant objects and gather data. Robotic spacecraft are sent to explore our solar system and beyond, gathering valuable information about other planets, moons, and asteroids.
